Kranjska Gora, Zgornjesavska valley, one of the most beautiful alpine valleys rests in the Nortwestern part of Slovenia, close to our borders with Austria and Italy. The symbol of three border region is »ohne Grenzen - senza confini – brez meja« and it means »without borders«.

Kranjska Gora reputably already existed in the XI.Century. In 1362, it became ecclesiastical land. It is said, that the church in Kranjska Gora was built in the instructions of the Spanish queen. The present church of the Virgin Mary of the Ascension was built later, in 1520 in the late Ghotic style. A part of the life of the place and its people is preserved in the 300 year old farm house museum – Liznjekova house in the center of Kranjska Gora where is also room for exhibitions and cultural events.

This narrow valley situated between the Juian Alps and the Karavanke has been famous for its kind and hospitable people since the time when Sir Humpry Davy first visited the valley and fell in love with it. Mysterious and romantic, embraced by the magnificent mountain peaks the valley gave rise to numerous legends and fairy tales.

Today, the policy is to provide high quality tourist services, nature-friendly and sustainable development of tourism with special attention to protecting the environment. The symbol of Kranjska Gora is an animal – the grouse – wich symolize intact nature, waelth and love, in these parts, is a protected species.

Tourism is today's basic industry which goes back to 1904. In Kranjska Gora at the entrance of the Triglav national Park, summer tourism – climatic tourism, trekking and mountaineering first developed. This was followed by winter tourism, skiing, ski-jumping, cross-country skiing, sleighing, ... After a full day in the open air, there's nothing quite like a good evening meal in a local pub followed by a visit to Kranjska Gora's Casino or one of plenty good restaurants.
